 Save the date cards are a way to give your guests the gift of anticipation
Out of town guests look forward to weddings to see family and friends. So save the date cards really mean a lot to them. They say anticipation is half the fun, right? After all, the only time members of many extended families get together is for weddings and funerals. Save the date cards and the increasingly popular save the date magnets are easy and inexpensive ways to show your out of town guests that you really want them to be there. They're inexpensive because you'll only have so many out of town guests anyway. And you'll only need one card or save the date magnet per family. Everybody wins - you're guests will get enough notice to make lower cost travel arrangements and coordinate with work. And you'll look like the considerate person that you are by giving them time and something to anticipate - all while saying, "I really hope you can be there," by sending them a notice of your wedding date from 3 months to a year prior to the wedding. You can be creative with the way in which you let your guests know of your big day. A card that matches your wedding invitations is just one way to get your friends and family to mark their calendars. Save the date magnets are convenient, because guests can put them on their refrigerators and never have to look for a misplaced card. Or consider printing out some small round stickers using your computer, which can be placed on your guests' calendars.
For a great do it yourself save the date idea, you can use unique design or even custom design and monogram stamps and embossers with save the date cards of your choice or on foils and labels to add a wedding logo to your invitation. Later, you can use the design with other wedding decorations, invitations, thank you cards, or anywhere else you'd like to use your wedding logo. There's another thing you might not have considered. Save the date cards are a great opportunity to try using printable stationery or even edible invitations as you can see in the picture above. And why not? This is a fun and less formal part of your wedding. You can use bright colors, die-cut designs, or the increasingly popular slim invitation cards to let your distant guests know in advance how fun the trip will be. Tie a little ribbon through a hole in the top of the card, use photo paper invitation kits, or attach die-cut logos with adhesive foam strips and you'll have a fun advertisement for your big day. The invitation paper with photo paper backing allows you to print your own photo and tie translucent paper with the printed information over it for a softer look - great for pictures of settings for destination weddings. If you are having a destination wedding,you could send luggage tags with your save the date cards. Since your guest list is likely smaller (destination weddings often tend to be only closer family and friends), it wouldn't cost you too much. It shows guests how much their attendance would mean to you. They get a great vacation out of it too!
